Julie supports schools, colleges and parents to help them to understand and manage the difficulties that early trauma and disrupted attachment can present. She is a member of the Welsh Government National Delivery Group for care experienced learners and a lifelong member of the NAHT.
Julie took early retirement from teaching in 2018 after 33 years and took up a post with Adoption UK. Julie was Deputy Head for 12 years in a South Wales Primary school in an area identified as having high levels of deprivation. She completed her NPQH and was applying for headships. This was at the same time as adopting a sibling group of 3. She soon realised that the challenges of adoptive family life would not be conducive to being an effective headteacher. She remained in a senior role until her retirement.
