After completing a BEd in Education Studies from Exeter University and Primary PGCE from University of Wales Trinity St David, Rhys began his teaching career in Hounslow, South West London at a large, three-form entry primary. While in London, he taught a range of year groups and received a ‘Teach In London’ award for his work with children from deprived backgrounds. Following four years, Rhys moved west to Bristol where, over the course of ten years working in both Bristol & South Gloucestershire, he took on a variety of leadership roles before becoming a Head Teacher in 2017. In the Autumn of 2021 he returned to his home county of Pembrokeshire to become Head Teacher of Cleddau Reach Primary School.
Outside of work, Rhys enjoys being active and challenging himself. In the years since he finished playing rugby he has taken on marathons, half-marathons, the National 3 Peaks 24-hour challenge and, most recently, all 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in seven days. He has also recently become a trustee of Mind Pembrokeshire and is looking forward to supporting young people in the county who are struggling with mental health issues.
