Nia Miles is Assistant Headteacher at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School in Swansea and is currently seconded to the Leadership Academy as Innovation and Well-being Advisor. Nia leads on the Leadership Academy’s well-being and innovation activities. She is passionate about building new partnerships across Wales and supporting the well-being of all educational leaders. Nia organised the Leadership Academy’s highly successful first online conference and established Head-To-Head, a weekly well-being space for headteachers. She enjoys being part of a team with a shared vision and would like to see the Leadership Academy continue to grow as the voice of and support to educational leaders across Wales.
After completing a degree in Silversmithing and 3D Design and then a PGCE, she began her teaching career in 2006 at Pontarddulais Comprehensive School. During her time there she has taken on various roles including Design & Technology Teacher, Progress Manager and most recently Assistant Headteacher. Over the last four years Nia has led on pupil well-being and safeguarding, self-evaluation and school improvement, as well as leading Pontarddulais Comprehensive as a pioneer school for Curriculum for Wales.
Nia loves spending time with her friends and family, particularly her daughter Lucy. In her spare time, you can find Nia visiting galleries or doing hot pod yoga. She also visits the beach in all weathers as seeing the sea keeps her relaxed and grounded.
