Dr Debbie Nash is an academic with expertise in animal science. Debbie spent several years teaching in FE, before completing a PhD at the Royal Veterinary College, followed by a Lectureship and Senior Lectureship at Aberystwyth University. Consequently, Debbie has experience of teaching at the coalface and a real view of the skills and knowledge base young people bring from mainstream education.
Within her lecturing role Debbie has responsibilities for decision making to align course structures to internal strategy and QAA guidelines. She also has duties of pastoral care for students and mentorship for colleagues, e.g. reviewing Senior Fellow applications for Higher Education Academy accreditation.
With a young son in primary education, Debbie has a real interest in shaping the curriculum of mainstream education in Wales from a parental perspective. As a single mum working full time, Debbie brings a first-hand grasp of working parent needs, especially during the pandemic, where working from home was a precarious balance with home schooling and childcare. Debbie is looking forward to supporting the development of educational leaders working within this context in ever-changing times.
As well as spending time with her son, Debbie enjoys keeping fit (sporadically!) and horse riding in the Welsh mountains.
