Karen Lawrence is headteacher of Llanfaes CP School in Brecon and has been in post since 2005. In 2019 Karen was seconded as Head of Primary Sector for ERW and as a Challenge Advisor for Powys. She has been the Chair of the Headteacher Reference Board for ERW since 2015 and holds an MA in Education Leadership.
As an Associate Karen has been involved in a number of workstreams and projects including coaching, facilitation, co-authoring Our Call to Action and supporting Head-To-Head, the Leadership Academy’s weekly well-being space for headteachers. Karen has also collaborated with colleagues in Welsh Government on the Operational Delivery Board and Schools as Learning Organisations, as well as mentoring and coaching new and acting headteachers in Powys.
“Becoming an Associate meant taking the leap of faith initially and being part of the co-constructing of the Leadership Academy with inspiring individuals – both my colleagues in cohort 1 and those who led us – to build an organisation which will, I believe, have a lasting effect on outcomes for children through effective leadership.”
Karen has an eclectic taste in music from Sweet Child of Mine to Sweet Caroline and everything in between. She is also an avid but emotional football supporter of Manchester United through the good times and the bad, and after a loss (especially to certain teams) her family try to avoid her!
