Dewi Wyn Hughes is Headteacher of Ysgol Gwynedd, a primary school of over 540 pupils located in the town of Flint, North Wales. Ysgol Gwynedd were fortunate to be part of the initial Pioneer school lead programme when the vision for the new curriculum was launched back in 2015. As an Associate, Dewi is looking forward to collaborating with leaders from across Wales to build strong school to school relationships with a focus on developing system leadership.
In addition to his headteacher and Associate roles, Dewi is also a board member of the Urdd residential committee and is keen to support the development of Urdd residential centres across Wales to provide further enriching experiences to the young people of Wales.
Dewi is married to Alison, who is also a primary school Headteacher in Flintshire, and they are parents to Christina and Harri who both attend Welsh medium schools in their local community. They enjoy travelling as a family and have spent several summer breaks exploring many European countries together.
Outside of school Dewi enjoys walking his dog ‘Hilts’ in the nearby Clwydian hills and watching any type of sport, especially football and rugby. Dewi is a lifelong Evertonian and also follows his hometown football team, Mold Alexandra.
