Jonathan Angell

Jonathan is the Headteacher and Director of Eastern Community Campus having been appointed to the post in September 2021. Eastern High serves the communities of St. Mellons, Llanrumney and Rumney on the eastern edge of Cardiff. The school is in a new building and shares the site with Cardiff and Vale College allowing a unique partnership between a school and a college to develop. Jonathan’s previous role was Principal of City Academy Bristol, part of the Cabot Learning Federation. As well as being Principal of City Academy, he also held the post of Senior Principal within the Cabot Learning Federation. As part of this role Jonathan chaired the Bristol Association of Secondary Headteachers and represented secondary colleagues on a number of groups across Bristol. City Academy was Jonathan’s second headship for the trust. Previously, he was Principal of John Cabot Academy and was seconded to City Academy as part of a support package in March 2019. 

Jonathan studied Chemistry at the University of Bristol and then continued on to complete his PGCE before starting to teach at Downend School in what is now South Gloucestershire. He completed a Master in Arts in Raising Achievement in City Schools which was sponsored by Bristol City Council. Jonathan is married with two undergraduate age children. Jonathan still lives in Bristol and manages to play rugby and bird watch (though not normally at the same time).
