Well-being

We want educational leaders’ well-being to be prioritised and systematically supported in Wales and we’re working with partners across the education system, as well as with Welsh Government and practitioners, to develop a more strategic approach to investing in the ‘whole leader’.

The Leadership Academy has now formed a working group to undertake a review of existing support for leaders’ well-being and co-construct an All-Wales Strategy for the Well-being of Educational Leaders.

As well as providing these strategies the Leadership Academy are developing an exciting partnership with NHS Wales centred around well-being and inspired by their Compassionate Leadership Principles.

Well-being of School Leaders National Survey

Our Well-being of School Leaders National Survey, conducted in summer 2020, identified important areas where leaders are experiencing stress and anxiety in their professional and personal lives, including through workload and aspects of the accountability and inspection systems. We will be expanding this evidence base to cover the youth sector and post-16 in 2021.

The well-being of all leaders continues to be one of the strategic priorities for the National Academy for Educational Leadership. Don’t worry if you missed the conference, you can catch-up with the sessions online.
