Richard Monteiro is headteacher of Ysgol Pen y Bryn in Conwy, which is a two-form infant and junior school. In his previous role he gained experience of leading two schools as the headteacher for the Federation of Ysgol Bryn Clwyd and Ysgol Gellifor in Denbighshire.
Richard has experience as a Peer Inspector and has collaborated with Estyn on case studies about leadership styles in federated schools. Richard has also worked with colleagues in Welsh Government as part of a pilot group trailing the Schools as Learning Organisations toolkit.
As an Associate, Richard has worked on a variety of projects including co-authoring and designing the cohort 2 commission report exploring the role of educational leadership and its relationship with the Welsh language and culture and has facilitated learning experiences for Associates in cohort 3. He has also contributed to the endorsement and quality assurance processes. Richard would like to see the Leadership Academy continue to foster relationships with stakeholders in the system to effect positive change.
Richard enjoys living in North Wales, walking in the mountains, visiting the beaches and appreciating what a beautiful part of the world he lives in.
