This Welsh-medium conference brought together headteachers, senior leaders, and educational influencers from various sectors to celebrate the progress in Welsh language education and discuss the ambitious journey towards reaching 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Professor Mererid Hopwood

Mererid Hopwood has spent her career in education, languages and literature. She is Professor of Welsh and Celtic Studies at Aberystwyth University. She has won the Chair and Crown for poetry at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, the Welsh Book of the Year Prize (poetry), the Tir na n-Og prize (children’s writing) and the Hay Festival Poetry Medal (2023). She has been Bardd Plant Cymru and derives great pleasure from collaborating with artists from different forms, from dance to theatre, from film and the visual arts to music. She is one of the Honourable Presidents of the Waldo Williams’ Society and is Secretary of Academi Heddwch Cymru (the Wales Peace Institute).
