Born in Maesteg in the Llynfi Valley, Andrew studied A-levels at Maesteg Comprehensive School before going to the University of Liverpool to complete a BSc Honours Degree in Physics. He moved back to his native Wales in 1990 where he studied for a PhD in Physics at Cardiff University, focusing on research in nanotechnology and the use of semiconducting materials in electronic devices.
After obtaining his Doctorate in 1994 he started work at Coleg Sir Gar as Lecturer in Physics before progressing into several diverse managerial roles within the institution In September 2018, Andrew was appointed as CEO/Principal of Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion, having responsibility for seven campuses.
He is a member of the Institute of Physics (CPhys) and has worked as a Peer Assessor with Estyn for nearly 20 years, assessing the standards of other FE colleges throughout Wales.
