Claire Elizabeth Williams

Board Member

Claire Elizabeth Williams is headteacher at Glan Usk Primary School in Newport. She has been teaching for over seventeen years, her previous roles include headteacher at St Illtyd’s Primary School in Blaenau Gwent, deputy headteacher at George Street Primary School in Torfaen and Glan Usk Primary School in Newport, a Curriculum and Professional Learning Pioneer School. She was awarded a distinction in the Pearson Teacher of the Year Awards in Wales in 2007 and has over ten years’ experience as a senior school leader.

As part of the pioneer process, she was an active member of the strand 1, strategic design phase steering group and an advocate and representative of the strand 1 assessment and progression group.  She was also a key contributor to the development of the Education Achievement Service professional learning programme ‘Securing Good and Aiming for Excellent’.

Claire was brought up and educated in Ebbw Vale and after graduating from Oxford University in 1999, she completed her PGCE at the University of Wales, Swansea. She has held strategic leadership roles for curriculum development, professional learning, assessment, management of grant funding and family and community engagement.
