Claire Williams

Associate Federation

Claire Williams is headteacher at Glan Usk Primary School in Newport. She has been teaching for over seventeen years, her previous roles include headteacher at St Illtyd’s Primary School in Blaenau Gwent, deputy headteacher at George Street Primary School in Torfaen and Glan Usk Primary School in Newport, a Curriculum and Professional Learning Pioneer School. Claire has experience as a Partner Challenge Advisor for EAS and was Chair of the Abertillery Cluster of Schools. She was awarded a distinction in the Pearson Teacher of the Year Awards in Wales in 2007 and has over ten years’ experience as a senior school leader.

Claire likes to keep up to date of new challenges, initiatives and the current climate that is affecting schools and thrives on new challenges and being able to shape the future of education in Wales. Claire’s aspiration is for the National Academy for Educational Leadership to be central to leaders in Wales accessing high-quality leadership advice, support, professional learning and networking.

Claire is a mother and enjoys spending time with her two boys, who have taught her more about managing workload and juggling roles, whilst maintaining a sense of humour than any leadership role ever has! She also enjoys relaxing at her family caravan in Narberth in West Wales (with no Wi-Fi!)
