Academy Associate

Kerina Hanson is headteacher of Pennard Primary School in Swansea. She has experience as an Estyn Peer Inspector, is Chair of Swansea Headteachers Association and president of the National Association of Headteachers Cymru.

In her role as an Academy Associate Kerina has contributed to the Enquire, Innovate & Explore project which linked to the four purposes, well-being and developing emotional literacy through story. She is also undertaking research into cohort 3s commission. Kerina has welcomed the opportunity to input into research and development of leadership in Wales, especially with a view to promoting equity for all schools. She sees the Leadership Academy playing a key role in raising the profile of leadership in Wales and making leaders and their achievements more visible.

“I feel the Leadership Academy has an important role to play in supporting headteachers and leaders in their professional role, especially through the next few years which will be a period of extensive change.”

Kerina is a very proud single mum of grown-up twin sons and has two cats. She loves to travel and has travelled extensively across South East Asia, Europe, Australia and Japan. Her pastimes include reading, sketching and walking along the Gower coastline.
