Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Unlocked

Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Unlocked is our new webinar series, which stimulates thinking and discussion on the strategic leadership and implementation of ALN reform in Wales. Inspired by our popular Leadership Unlocked webinars, these professional learning events will explore leadership and changes to ALN provision in Wales and internationally. It aims to support leaders on their ALN journey. Each webinar will be guided by a notable guest speaker.

The first webinar on Thursday 9 February 9:30-11:30am will feature Sam Garner. Sam is a renowned Mental Health and Inclusion Consultant. She has been a SENCo and has a wealth of experience and qualifications around mental health and neurodiversity. Lauded for her humour and ‘telling it like it is’ approach to mental health, Sam has had her book Mental Health in Education published by Routledge, and regularly writes for several publications with more books in the pipeline for publication.

Sam’s presentation will explore:

  • the purpose of why we do what we do
  • how neurodiversity and inclusion is being embraced globally
  • why inclusion is a journey and not a destination
  • developing our own growth mindset.

The webinars are designed for those in senior leadership roles from schools, the youth work sector and the post compulsory education and training sector and aims to support them in their roles as system leaders.

Delivered digitally via Zoom this web-based series delivers high quality and inspirational professional learning, that is engaging, stimulating, motivational, collaborative, inclusive and equitable to all. Each webinar will include a range of activities and learning techniques for example breakout rooms, Q&As, and access to additional reading and resource materials.
