Andrew Brasington

Associate

Andrew Brasington is headteacher of George Street Primary School in Pontypool. Andrew has been teaching since 1999 and his previous roles include headteacher at Coed Y Garn Primary in Blaenau Gwent and headteacher at Llangynidr Community Primary. He has experience as an Estyn peer inspector, regional school improvement partner for EAS and NPQH leadership coach.

As an Associate, Andrew is looking forward to contributing to the voice of leadership which is pivotal to achieving positive change and progress. He is also looking to build strong, purposeful relationships with colleagues and experts within and beyond schools as well as sharing in a learning community that places Wales at the cutting edge of leadership development and gaining new knowledge and developing skills that will be both inspiring and uncomfortable.

Andrew’s aspirations for the National Academy for Educational Leadership are to help the organisation to become a source of inspiration and empowerment, to increase its reputation and influence as a voice of the profession that promotes effective policy and practice.

Andrew’s wife is a secondary school teacher, and they have two wonderful teenage girls who spend half of their lives swimming. His selfish treat is to spend his spare time running on the road, along the local canal or best of all among the climbs and ridges of the beautiful Black Mountains. In another life he’d want to be a backing singer in a soul band.
